Our parents definitely had a knack for names – Alka and Akio. One named after a medicine and another bequeathed a Japanese name on the only Indian boy with the said Japanese name in the entire country. It was no wonder children and adults would approach us when we were growing up and ask us if we were related. And sometimes ask if one was adopted. In the early stages of sibling hood, we used it to our advantage and proclaimed it loud and clear we didn’t know each other AT ALL. Actually, we still do that sometimes (kidding!).
As we became older and supposedly wiser, we grew into our relationship and our names. His finer qualities glared at me, until I had to concede his awesomeness behind his back. Akio is a special individual starting right from his name. He’s that guy who can never say no to anything – be it a project, a favor, his time. He respects and loves everyone, never judging people or putting anyone down. I am always proud of the fact that wherever he goes, he smotes everyones hearts and even people who meet him for a few minutes, immediately warm to him. Nowadays, I can always recount his awesomeness to his face, which he always modestly laughs off.
It’s little wonder he met Rakhi and fell in love. They mirror qualities in each of their own personalities. I have never heard Rakhi say a bad thing about anyone, or say anything adverse to anyone despite the situation. She’s kind, smart, beautiful and she holds everyone with mutual respect. Watching her blend right into our family warms my heart.
When we did their engagement shoot, for the first time we saw how perfect they are for each other. Watching them interact, guide each other, run with the ideas while running on five hours of sleep made it easy to appreciate their readiness to tackle all of the joys of life head on – sleep or no sleep!
To say I’m excited for their wedding next year is a grand understatement. I’m so overjoyed and look forward to being behind the scenes and taking every bit of it in. We have photographed so many beautiful moments in our entire career and are curious to see what it feels to be on the other side of the camera for just a little bit. For now, we have their spectacular shoot to look back on and get us excited for the big day!
