When the Drums Started, We Were Ready

When the drums started, we were prepared.

Or at least, we thought we were.

Because there are some wedding days where you can anticipate the moments – the vows, the first dance, the portraits – but then there are celebrations that completely take on a life of their own.

Fatima and Joseph’s wedding was one of those days. Fatima and Joseph were completely themselves: expressive, joyful, wildly in love, and surrounded by people who matched their energy. After a long-distance relationship that asked so much of them, Fatima and Joseph had finally made it to this moment. They had held on through the distance, the waiting, the miles between them, and everything that came with building a life together from afar. And when they finally got to celebrate surrounded by the people they love, there was no holding back. The dance floor was alive from beginning to end – music, movement, laughter, and celebration unfolding faster than than the beats being played.

For us, it was the kind of celebration that makes photography feel effortless. There was nothing to manufacture, nothing to direct. Just a couple deeply in love, a room full of people who knew how to celebrate them, and the unmistakable energy carrying the night forward.
