Dee + Connor booked us in the fall of 2018 for May 16, 2020. Two years out, they already knew that this would be their date. It held a lot of significance for them and having the chance to celebrate with all of their family and friends. Naturally when things began this year, it was a giant tidal wave of events and emotions. Luckily for us, we had a very focused and level minded couple. Both Dee and Connor knew that they just wanted to get married and it wasn’t in their nature to let something out of their control stop them. That joy that every couple dreams of leading up to the weeks of the wedding day; that would happen regardless of the circumstances. The big picture was the only thing that mattered.
Their ceremony was held at their parent’s home in New Jersey. A small gathering of nine of us came together to celebrate their marriage. There were tears, hearty laughs, champagne and cake! Everyone spread out over the garden and maintained the social distancing guidelines. It was beautiful.
I drove home that evening and I marveled at it all. I marveled at Dee + Connor’s resilience. The fact is that weddings are one of the three biggest things everyone dreams of in the course of their life and with that weightage comes certain dreams, expectations, visions. And to have it suddenly change can be painful. And yet, they didn’t let any of this color their day. It was magical. Later on, they will have a bigger celebration with everyone they missed, but they had their marriage when they felt was the best moment for them.
To all couples who are in the midst of this, hang in there. I hope you are able to stay uplifted and keep each other happy while waiting for your special moment. If it suddenly seems so much farther away, remember that nothing can change the fact that you will have it.
